Cutlery Kit vs Plastic
A pocket cutlery kit pays for itself in weeks and removes one of the most-littered plastics there is.
Plastic forks, spoons and straws are used for around ten minutes. They are small, light, food-soiled and made of several polymer types, which is close to a worst case for any recycling system.

Why one wins
Single-use cutlery and straws consistently rank in the top ten items found in beach and river litter surveys. They are light enough to blow out of bins and small enough to slip through sorting screens.
Almost no facility recycles them. They are too small for the mechanical sorters, usually polystyrene or mixed polypropylene, and contaminated with food.
A steel or bamboo kit weighs about 150g, lives in a bag, and replaces roughly 250 pieces of single-use cutlery a year for someone eating lunch out regularly. Payback against buying nothing at all is immediate — the kit is a one-off.
Bans across the EU, UK and parts of the US have already removed much of this category, and the compostable replacements need industrial composting that most bins do not connect to.
